Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about fishing licenses in Spain, the application process, costs, and regional coverage.

Do I need a fishing license in Spain?

Yes, a fishing license (licencia de pesca) is legally required for both recreational sea fishing and freshwater fishing in Spain. Fishing without a valid license can result in fines ranging from €60 to €3,000 and confiscation of your equipment.

How long does it take to get my license?

Most licenses are processed and delivered to your email as a PDF within 1–2 business days.

Is the license valid in all of Spain?

Yes. Our sea fishing licenses are issued by the Balearic Islands (Govern de les Illes Balears) and are valid along the entire Spanish coastline, including the Canary Islands. This is standard in Spain — a coastal fishing license from any region covers all Spanish waters. Freshwater licenses are typically valid only in the issuing autonomous community.

What documents do I need?

You'll need a valid passport, DNI, or NIE number. Non-EU citizens need their passport number. No other documents are required — we handle all the paperwork with the Spanish authorities.

Can I get a refund?

Since we begin processing immediately after payment, refunds are only possible if we are unable to obtain your license. In that case, you will receive a full refund.

Do children need a fishing license?

Children under 14 can usually fish without a license when accompanied by a licensed adult. Children aged 14 and older need a Junior license. Requirements vary slightly by region.

How much does a fishing license cost in Spain?

Our prices are all-inclusive with no hidden fees. An Adult license (18+) is €49.99, a Senior license (65+) is €24.99, and a Junior license (14+) is €29.99. This covers the official government fee, our processing service, and delivery to your email. All licenses are valid for 3 full years.

Can tourists fish in Spain?

Absolutely. Both EU and non-EU citizens can obtain a Spanish fishing license. You just need a valid passport, DNI, or NIE. There are no residency requirements — tourists, holiday visitors, and expats can all fish legally with our license.

What is included in the price?

The price covers everything: the official government fee charged by the Comunidad Autónoma, our processing and application service, and delivery of your official license PDF to your email. There are no additional costs or hidden charges.

What types of fishing does the license cover?

Our sea fishing license covers recreational shore fishing (pesca recreativa desde costa) along the entire Spanish coastline, including piers, harbours, breakwaters, and beaches. It does not cover boat fishing or spearfishing — those require separate permits.

What is PescaREC?

PescaREC is the official Spanish mobile app (available on Android and iOS) developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. It is used to record and report your catches when recreational sea fishing in Spain. You can download it for free and use it alongside your fishing license to log fish you catch — especially regulated species.

How do I receive my license?

Your official fishing license is delivered as a PDF to the email address you provide during checkout. Simply save it on your phone or print it out. The PDF is legally valid for inspections.

What happens if I'm checked by authorities?

Simply show your license PDF on your phone or as a printed copy. Our licenses are officially issued by the Comunidad Autónoma and are fully recognised by the Guardia Civil, port authorities, and local police.

When is the best time to fish in Spain?

Spain offers year-round fishing thanks to its mild climate. Spring and autumn are generally the best seasons for shore fishing, with sea bass peaking October–March and sea bream September–December. Summer is excellent in the Canary Islands. Your license is valid for 3 years, so you can fish whenever you visit.

Can I buy licenses for my whole family?

Yes, simply place separate orders for each family member who needs a license. Remember that children under 14 can fish without a license when accompanied by a licensed adult, so you may not need licenses for everyone.
